MACWAHOC and ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Edwin D. Cantara, 83, passed away peacefully April 17, 2011, after a short illness. He was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Woonsocket, R.I., the son of Wilfred and Delores Cantara.
Ed was a tank crew member of the 2nd Armored Division, U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Army National Guard. He owned and operated his own garage and worked for Hanington Bros. for 17 years as a truck driver. Ed was a devoted husband, father, gramp and papa to those that loved him. He enjoyed the winters at Settler’s Rest RV park in Zephyrhills, Fla. Ed loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many wonderful days at the family camp on the banks of Macwahoc Stream with his precious golden, River.
Ed is survived by his wife of 38 years, Agnes Cantara; children, Martha Crocker, Michael Joy, Dianne Worster, Doreen Cantara, Darlene Boobar, Donald Cantara and Douglas Cantara; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Rita Riendeau; and brother, Wilfred Cantara.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, May 15, at Macwahoc Cemetery with a gathering immediately after at the family home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his memory to Macwahoc Plantation Veterans Memorial Fund, care of Steve Pratt, 48 Kingman Road, Macwahoc, ME 04451.
