PORTAGE LAKE – Clair L. Moreau Sr., 88, took his last flight to heaven April 27, 2011, in Caribou. He was born April 8, 1923, in Masardis, son of the late Paul and Effie (Robinson) Moreau.

Throughout Clair’s life, he held numerous occupations, but his first and last love was flying. He was a self-employed commercial bush pilot for more than 54 years, owning and operating Portage Lake Flying Service for many years. He was well known to be one of the best float plane operators in the area, and he could take off and land his floatplane and his passengers barely knew it.

He is survived by his wife of more than 47 years, Judy (Pelletier) Moreau of Portage Lake; his children, Clair Moreau Jr. and his wife, Christina, of South Portland, Anne Ireland and her husband, Vincent, of Millinocket, Mary Guay and her husband, Joe, of Milford, Denise Garrnet and her husband, Don, of Morriston, Fla., William Moreau and his wife, Dawna, of Milford, and Nancy Winslow and her husband, Willie, of Mapleton; two sisters, Glenna Louridas and her husband, Peter, of Ashland, and Audrey Bird of New York; his grandchildren, Robert and Michelle Moreau, Ben Hutchins, Ginny Trimmer, Jonathan Boyorak, Monica Merced, Travis Drost, Chasity Kitchen, Matt Pelkey, Stephanie and Amanda Winslow; several great-grandchildren, numerous special nieces and nephews. Mr. Moreau was predeceased by his siblings, Thelma Firth, Holman Campbell, Uldene Cottle, Melba Leonard, Maxine Hampson and Paul Moreau. Clair loved his pets and will be missed by Betsy Cat, Big Kitty, Mr. Wiggles, Brandy and, of course, Brutus.

Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will begin 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Morton Jr. officiating.
