CASTINE – Maureen “Reenie” Mainen, wife of Michael Mainen, died April 26, 2011, surrounded by her family at her home. Maureen, the daughter of Frank and Mary McFadden, was born and raised in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Maureen was an artist and educator. She graduated from Brown University in 1963 and earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from McGill University. She practiced school psychology in Todd County, Minnesota, before moving to Maine in 1978. She taught in Winterport and Newburgh schools before retiring in 1995. Maureen studied art at the University of Maine in the early 1980s and found her true calling as a sculptor. When she and her husband moved to Castine in 1994, she found the perfect setting to work and enjoy the natural beauty of Maine.

In addition to her husband, Mike, and golden retriever, Blue, Maureen will be missed by her son, Zachary and his wife, Susana, and baby of Lisbon, Portugal; her son, Andrew and his girlfriend, Rie, of California; two sisters, Patricia and Jeanne and their families of Florida; a special niece and nephew, Jan and Tad Wood, and their family of Annapolis, Md.; many special friends near and far.

A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, Reenie asked that you take a moment to enjoy a flower and give it to a friend with thoughts of peace and love.
