EDINBURG – William E. Hammond, 79, passed away April 30, 2011, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Bangor, son of Linwood and Edwina (Hackett) Hammond.
William was a very good man, a good friend to and loved by many, and will be greatly missed. He had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh. He had a great love of animals.
He is survived by his partner, Joao Barros of Edinburg; his mother, Edwina Fletcher; two sisters, Eleanor and Linda, all of Winterport; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at
