WESTON and HODGDON – Gerald Jasper Simpson, 91, passed away May 20, 2011, at his home on Brackett Lake. He was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Amity, the son of Isaac and Effie (Walton) Simpson.

Gerald, who many know as Jerry or GJ, owned and operated Simpson’s Garage at Hodgdon Corner and was a mechanic who served all the people in the surrounding areas and many from far away. He was a great machinist/fabricator and when the farmers couldn’t find a part they went to Gerald to make it. He also sold gas for Texaco for more than 50 years. Gerald loved to tell stories about his life, which his children, grandchildren and friends loved to hear. He always wanted to build and fabricate an antique car, which he got to do with his son, Richard and grandson, Kevin, in his last years. He had many friends of all ages that visited often at the lake, cooked for him and fished the Brackett Lake waters. He never wanted for enough fish to eat. We will all miss him very much. Special thanks to his granddaughter, Anne Tidd and family, who cared for his needs this last year; and his grandsons, Rob and Kevin Larson, who were always there. Special thanks to the Foss family and Lucy for always being there for dad.

Gerald is survived by his children, Richard Simpson and his wife, Marilyn, of Houlton, Janet Folsom and her husband, Brian, of Hodgdon and Judy Wilson and her husband, Harold, of Muscatine, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Anne Tidd, Deborah Beaulieu, Robert Larson Jr., Kevin Larson, Victoria Larson, Michael Larson, Andrew Larson, Matthew Folsom, Janelle Wilson and Andrew Wilson; 11 great-grandchildren Logan Tidd, Brittany Beaulieu, Dakota and Kaydie Larson, Tristen and Isaac Larson, Avah Larson, Rylie Folsom, Chiara Wilson, Treyton Stewart and Shylar Wilson; four sisters, Olive Thompson of Houlton, Athlyn Titcomb and her husband, Alton “Vernon,” of Houlton, Lily McQuarrie of Colchester, Conn., and Elaine Simpson of Houlton; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Simpson, Joan Simpson, both of Houlton, and Marquite Simpson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Wilson Simpson; his son, Gerald Robert Simpson; his brothers, Millard, Sterle, Fred, Earl and Hollis; his sisters, Evelyn, Rosie and Ellen; and his special friend, Phillip “Warren” Foss.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Mark Lunn officiating. Interment will be at Hodgdon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Gerald’s memory to Aroostook Area Agency on Aging or Hodgdon Baptist Church, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730.
