BREWER – John L. McCurdy, 70, died peacefully May 26, 2011, at Kindred Hospital, Boston. He was born March 13, 1941, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of Leslie and Mary (Cronin) McCurdy.
John graduated in 1959 from Cheverus High School, Portland, then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Maine in 1966. He was self-employed as a certified public accountant in Hampden for many years. After he retired he worked part time for Pine Hill Golf Course as a bookkeeper. John enjoyed playing golf and loved to travel. He spent many vacations in Prince Edward Island and Campobello Island, New Brunswick.
John is survived by his wife of nine years, Jeannette L. McCurdy; his two sons, Kevin McCurdy of Salt Lake City and Kenneth McCurdy and his significant other, Karen Knight, of Bunnell, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Karen Buck of Milford; stepsons, Stephen LaPlante of Long Beach, Calif., and Scott LaPlante of Old Town; and by his sister, Leslie Welsh of West Chester, Pa. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy L. McCurdy. We thank the staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Beth Israel Hospital, Kindred Hospital and Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation for all the kindness and loving care he received.
At John’s request, there will be no services. A memorial remembrance will be held at a later date.
