BUCKSPORT – Lillian L. Grindle, 85, passed away peacefully May 27, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Bucksport, the daughter of Fred L. and Beatrice M. (Winchester) Gowen.
Lillian loved to go bowling and play bingo. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting for her beloved family.
Lillian is survived by her devoted and loving companion of 30 years, James “Jim” Davis of Bucksport; daughters, Barbara Colson and husband, Dennis, of Castine, Gail Jackson of Westbrook, Dorothy “Dorrie” Harriman and her husband, Wayne, of Brewer and Carol Rollerson and her husband, Darrell, of Iowa; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph Gowen of Bucksport, Floyd Gowan and his wife, Shirley, of Bucksport and Guy Gowen and his wife, Shirley, of Buxton; one sister, Edith Tate of Holden; one sister-in-law, Dorothy O’Brien of Bucksport; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Galen; son-in-law, Peter; brother, Walter; and sister, Marion. Lillian’s family offers special thanks to the staff on the 6th floor at Eastern Maine Medical Center for the special care they gave to Lillian during her stay.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to American Cancer Society, New England Division, Inc., One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
