STRATFORD, Conn. – Shirley (Jones) Stockwell died Feb. 9, 2011, at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Bradford.
Shirley lived in Maine and Connecticut. She spent the last 16 years at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vermont. Although she dropped out of high school, she had a lifelong interest in learning. In her 40s, she completed her GED and went on to attend a community college in Connecticut. She drew and painted, exhibiting in many art shows, and she continued drawing even after a debilitating stroke at age 70. She enjoyed being at the beach, reading and croquet. She tried to pass on to her children her love of the reading, outdoors, music and art.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Stockwell. She is survived by their four children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. June 4 at United Baptist Church, 8 Pleasant St., Milo. A graveside service will be held after the service. A reception will be held after the burial at the church.
