MANCHESTER, N.H. – Tony Adkins, 42, died unexpectedly July 25, 2011, in Manchester, N.H. He was born Sept. 18, 1968, the son of Luther and Julia (McLean) Adkins.

Tony grew up in the Elm Street/Chapin Park area of Bangor, where he was a well known resident and highly thought of friend to all who knew him. While growing up, if he wasn’t in the middle of an intense wiffle ball tournament, Tony would frequently be seen at his parents’ business, Steve’s Cleaners, formerly on the corner of Forest and State streets. Tony started school at St. John’s Elementary/Junior High. From there he went on to John Bapst Memorial High School, graduating in 1986, while also becoming a member of National Honor Society and Dirigo Boys State, and became known as one of the top young chess players in New England. Tony also attended the University of Maine and was recently attending the University of New Hampshire to complete his major in physics. During his life Tony also lived in Texas before settling in New Hampshire. Math being a passion, Tony used his skills to his benefit in his employment at H&R Block during the past 17 years. On the personal side, Tony loved music, especially REM and U2, had a beautiful singing voice, enjoyed tennis and chess with unbridled passion, was a member of MENSA, and will be fondly remembered as a gentle and compassionate soul, who loved a good joke and was quick with a smile.

Tony was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Sonja Everett of Sherman, Texas; and his close friend, Kassie Eppig of Manchester, N.H.

Services will be held 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at St. Raphael’s Church, 103 Walker St., Manchester, N.H.
