CALAIS – Merele Russell Haddock, 65, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. Merele was born Aug. 11, 1946, in Eastport, son of the late Arthur and Norma (Pettigrove) Haddock.
After attending school in Eastport, he started his career as a butcher with the IGA, Calais. Merele transferred to R&M IGA, Eastport, and was their meat cutter for 17 years. On Feb. 14, 1991, Merele married Joyce Clukey in Dexter. They eventually moved to Florida, where he worked at Publix, Winter Park, Fla., from which he retired. Merele was a member of the Rotary and Jaycee’s.
He attended Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais, with his wife, Joyce. Merele enjoyed metal detecting, jigsaw puzzles, bingo and visiting with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Paul Haddock; two brothers, Arthur and William Haddock; a sister, Barbara Rape; and his faithful canine companion, whom he loved dearly, Foxxy. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Haddock of Calais; two children, Peter Haddock of Orlando, and Pamela Bowers and her husband, Steve, of San Antonio; three stepchildren, Sunday Francis and her husband, John, of Eastport, Suzanne Follis of Eastport, and Michael Follis of Savannah; two sisters, Jane Randall of Eastport and Sandra Kowalski of Calais; two brothers, Leroy Haddock of Eastport and Edward Haddock of Calais; two sisters-in-law, Jean Erlandson of Hawthorne, Fla., and Heidi Tibbetts of Dennysville; three stepgrandsons, Matthew, Kevin and John Francis; many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Dolly.
