BREWER, Maine — Police Officer Liz Kelley noticed the passenger in a vehicle stopped on South Main Street last week for having an expired registration as someone with a drug history and asked to search her, Lt. Chris Martin said.

Heidi M. Peters, 23, who is listed as a Bangor-area transient, gave permission and Kelley found a diverted prescription pill identified as Klonopin, a drug typically provided for panic disorders; a marijuana joint; and a marijuana pipe, the lieutenant said.

Peters was charged with possession of a scheduled drug, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was taken to Penobscot County Jail, Martin said.

She later was released, a jail official said.
