BUCKSPORT and KENDUSKEAG – Elaine M. Drake “Auntie,” 88, died Aug. 16, 2011, in Bangor. She was born Aug. 31, 1922, in East Millinocket, the daughter of David and Dora (Cameron) Drake.
The second of nine children, Elaine, at a young age moved with her family to a home built by her father on River Road, Bucksport. She attended Bucksport schools and due to her failing eyesight at age 10 was enrolled in Perkins Institute for the Blind, Boston, graduating from there at age 18. Elaine was a devout Christian and her faith in God and love for her family were everything to her. She spent the last year of her life living in Kenduskeag in the care of her niece, Jayne Alley.
Elaine is survived by siblings, Harold Drake, Ted and Sally Drake, Geraldine (Drake) and husband, Russell Archer, Margie (Drake) and Millard Wardwell, Rodney and Norene Drake, Sharon (Drake) and Leon Baillargeon; sister-in-law, Evelyn Drake Kinney; and three generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Flora (Drake) Alley and her husband, Fred Alley; brother-in-law, Douglas Alley; brother, Audbur Drake; sister-in-law, Marge Drake; niece, Rachel Alley; and nephew, David Drake.
Family and friends will gather for visitation 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Riverview Cemetery, with Elaine’s brother, the Rev. Rodney Drake officiating.
