BAILEYVILLE and HAINES CITY, Fla. – Eugene Edward Greenlaw, 67, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital, after a severe head injury from a fall Friday, Aug. 12. Eugene was born March 12, 1944, in Calais.

He graduated from Calais Memorial High School in 1963.

Eugene worked for Georgia Pacific Corp. and for Domtar for 34 years, retiring in 2003.

In 2004, Eugene and his wife, Phyllis moved to Haines City, Fla., where they spent their winters and summers in Baileyville and Holden. He was a member of Quarter Century Club at Domtar, was an antique car enthusiast, and enjoyed exercising, going for walks, computers, and going to the casinos in Florida and Bangor.

Eugene was predeceased by his mother, Doris Greenlaw Bailey; and a granddaughter, Cassandra Greenlaw. Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Phyllis; three sons, David and his wife, Marlene, of Bucksport, Stephen and his companion, Meta, of Bangor, and Darrin and his companion, Cathy, of Fairfield; granddaughters, Nicole, Bethany, Megan and Lauren; grandsons, Tyler and Michael; and his feline companion, Precious.

A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville.
