FORT KENT – Fernand Charette, 75, died Aug. 17, 2011, surrounded by his family at a Frenchville health care facility, after a long and courageous battle with bone cancer. He was born July 30, 1936, in St. Francis, son of Josephel and Theresa (Jandreau) Charette, and stepson of Philias and Laura Dubois.

Fernand worked for Great Northern Paper Co. as a wood scaler for 20 years and later for the town of Fort Kent. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 0352,

and member of the Senior Citizens and French Club, all of Fort Kent.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Bernice (Cyr) Charette of Fort Kent; four sons, Donald “Butch” and his wife, Kim Dubois, of Fort Kent, Nathan and his wife, Brenda Charette, of Fort Kent, Douglas and his wife, Aron Charette, of Easton, and Keith and his wife, Jodi, of Fort Kent; two daughters, Theresa Charette and her companion, Mark Winter, both of Neenah, Wis., and Betsy and her husband, Billy Gagnon, of Fort Kent; 12 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren; one brother, Albert Charette of Lee; two sisters, Alvia Jandreau of St. Francis and Lucille Thibodeau of Lee; and one stepbrother, Danny and his wife, Naomi Nicolas, of Fort Kent. In addition to his parents and stepparents, he was predeceased by one brother, Valerie Charette; and two sisters, Ermance Pelletier and Pat Martin.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial with Fourth Degree honors will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal service will be held next week in the parish cemetery.
