NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., and WINTERPORT – Bernard Warren Parker Sr., 90, passed away Aug. 16, 2011, at a New Port Richey Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born April 29, 1921, in Frankfort, the son of Perley Freeman Parker and Lillian Madeline Averill.

Bernard attended Frankfort Village School and was valedictorian of the class of 1939. He served in the U.S. Army in central Europe as an automotive mechanic and earned the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World World II Victory Medal. He worked for International Silver Co. and Charles Parker Co., Meriden, Conn., and was a tool and die maker for New Departure/Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors Corp., Meriden, Conn., and Bristol, Conn. He retired after 44 years of service as supervisor of the plant Model Shop, Sandusky, Ohio. Bernard was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants for many years. His favorite hobbies included gardening, woodworking and stained glass.

Bernard is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Parker-Hopkins; one son, Jeffrey F. Parker, both of Port Richey, Fla.; sisters, Phyllis P. Gray and husband, Arnold, of Frankfort and Claire A. Parker of Belfast; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and three nieces, Dianna Soo of Bangor, Colleen Kreps of Appleton and Valerie Grove of Frankfort. He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife, Patricia Margaret Hopkins; one sister in infancy, Ina Claire Parker; and two sons, Bernard Warren Parker Jr. and Dennis Edward Parker.

Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Frankfort Congregational Church, Main Street, Frankfort, with Pastor Tim Hall officiating.
