CARRYING PLACE TOWN TOWNSHIP – Doris Glidden Lailer, 81, a resident of Carrying Place Town Township and former resident of Friendship Street, Waldoboro, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, after a period of failing health. Doris was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Whitefield, daughter of Earl and Annie Plummer Glidden.

Dorid was a graduate of Erskine Academy, class of 1951. For 11 years she was employed by GTE/Sylvania, Waldoboro. She was a member of Sno-Crawlers Snowmobile Club, Waldoboro, and Lexington Highlanders Snowmobile Club, Lexington, loved being outdoors, watching wildlife and feeding her birds. Doris also enjoyed painting, in oil and watercolor mediums.

She was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Howard and Mildred Engstrom; and brother, Linn Glidden. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Michael S. Lailer of Waldoboro; three sons, Dennis M. Lailer of Nobleboro, Gary L. Lailer of Bremen and Robert E. Lailer of Washington; brother, Gordon M. Glidden of Pittston; sister, Mary Bowen of Litchfield; five grandchildren, Brandi Lailer and Brittney Lailer, both of Nobleboro, Thomas Lailer and Alexis Lailer of Bremen and Lance Lailer of Washington; several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 19, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A graveside committal will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Resthaven Cemetery, Windsor, with a time of fellowship at Windsor Historical Society on the Windsor fairgrounds.
