SINCLAIR and MADAWASKA – Mark L. Peterson Sr. 101, died Aug. 24, 2011, at a Fort Kent hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1909, in Watertown, S.D., to Carl and Emma Peterson.
He was a carpenter by trade, but he was a jack-of-all-trades. In trying to provide for his family, his jobs brought him to Alaska and Africa. In 1953, Mark joined the newly founded Alcoholic Anonymous and it changed his life forever. An avid believer of the program, Mark would travel to conventions all throughout the country. In 1973, Mark and his wife, Myrtle, moved to Sinclair, where he was an AA sponsor to many and also worked as a counselor in Limestone for many years.
Mark is survived by his son, Mark Peterson Jr. and wife, Pierrette, of St. Agatha; grandson, Michael Peterson and wife, Sandy, of Madawaska; granddaughter, Debbie and her husband, Ken Martin, of Sinclair; great-grandchildren, Stacy Martin of Bangor, and Neal Martin and wife, Denise, of Sinclair; two very special great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Natalie of Bangor, and baby girl Martin due in just a few days; and a sister, Estelle Bellefeuille of Minnesota. Mark was predeceased by his parents; beloved wife of 69 years, Myrtle; his son, Larry; and daughter, Joanne.
Family and friends may call 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Michaud Funeral Home, St. Agatha. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Sinclair, with the Rev. Phil Cyr officiating. Burial will be at St. Agatha Upper Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to
