ORRINGTON – Frank L. Ring passed away peacefully Sept. 8, 2011, surrounded by family at a Bangor hospital after a recent illness. He was born April 21, 1927, in East Orrington, to Lawrence E. and Ella Mae (Wood) Ring.
Frank graduated from Brewer High School in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II from June 1945 to February 1947, serving in Florence, Italy, and was a life member of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 and Maurice W. Miles Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 4527. He drove a milk route for Ring’s Dairy Farms, and worked at Pratt & Whitney in 1952, Swift’s & Co. from 1954 to 1969, where they made the first McDonald’s hamburger in Bangor, and General Electric from 1969 to 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, playing cards and puzzle making, and spent 14 winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. Frank also enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sarah “Sally” P. Ring, whom he married in 1952, in Hartford, Conn., he is survived by five children, Timothy E. Ring and wife, Eleanora, of Caribou, and children, Heidi and Briana, Frank L. Ring of Portland, Mary-Ellen Hunt and husband, Phillip Hunt, of Ellsworth, and children, Danielle, Nicholas and Megan, Jody Dickey and husband, Bradley Dickey, of Hampden, and children, Tanya Pereira, and Melissa and Tobey Williamson, and Judy Emerson and husband, Michael Emerson, of Winterport, and child, Chris and Wendy Emerson; four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Carter, Jack and Griffin “Merv”; one brother, Charles Ring Sr. of Lincoln; and many fond nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Lawrence E. Ring Jr.; and one sister, Rosella Prahm, both of Orrington.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. There will be a private family committal service.
