SEARSPORT – Richard T. Clark, 88, died Sept. 9, 2011, at a Belfast nursing facility. He was born July 7, 1923, in Lincoln, Neb., son of Eugene and Yolanda (Salvadore) Clark.

He graduated from High School, Cherokee, Okla., and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years during World War II on a Corvette doing convey duty and a troop ship traveling to many parts of the world; both in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He belonged to American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. After the war, he worked for Long Island (N.Y.) Lighting Co. for 23 years as a stationary engineer. He came to Maine with his wife, Ethel, in 1968 after purchasing Yardarm Motel, Searsport. After that, he and his wife had a real estate business until he retired. He was very active in the First Congregational Church, Searsport, serving as trustee for a number of years, and was treasurer of the building fund for the vestry.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Lloyd; and a son, Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two stepdaughters, Sandra Swenk of Port Jefferson, N.Y., and Nancy McKissock of Corona Del Mar, Calif.; and a stepson, Kenneth Clarke of Patchogue, Long Island, N.Y.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all whom he loved dearly.

A memorial service was held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at First Congregational Church, Searsport, with the Rev. Dr. Arlin T. Larson officiating. Graveside services will be held at Washington Memorial Cemetery, Coram, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 261, Searsport, ME 04974. Arrangements under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
