OLD TOWN – Warren D. Rand Jr., 82, passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2011, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1928, in Old Town, son of Warren Sr. and Madeline (Lenfest) Rand.

The most important part of Warren’s life was his wife and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rarely missing one of the grandchildren’s many activities. He thoroughly enjoyed his time either at school activities, basketball court, ball fields or hockey rinks, watching the kids with pride. Warren graduated from Old Town High School in 1947. From 1950 to 1952, Warren proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After returning home from his involvement with the Korean War, he always stayed close to his military roots, and you could always expect to see him participating in the 4th of July and Veterans Day parade. Warren was the type of man who never had a negative thing to say about anyone or anything. Warren was a very hard working, honest man, and was very passionate and active in his faith as a member of United Baptist Church of Old Town, where he was recently honored as being the longest attending member of the church. Warren worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor before he retired from James River Co. in 1992. After his retirement, he and Norma opened their home and hearts sharing their love of kids and fostering children. Warren was one of the original coaches for Old Town Little League in the first years of its existence, and he continued to coach throughout the years when his grandchildren were involved. He also volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and he loved watching sports, especially when the Red Sox or Patriots were playing.

Warren is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Norma Irene (Stuart) Rand; his children, Warren “Randy” Rand and his wife, Jill, of Bradley, Jeffrey Rand of Old Town, Timothy Rand and his wife, Jennifer, of Indiana, and a “special” son, Robert Rand of Old Town; son-in-law, Ralph Murray Jr. of Costigan; nine grandchildren, Staci Provost and her husband, O’Keefe, Kristi Murray, Jasmyn Murray, Warren “Randy” Rand IV and his wife, Susan, Todd Rand and his wife, Destiny, Nathan Cates, Kristin Cates, Chris Rand and Amber Rand; six great-grandchildren, Copelyn Feero, Bailey Bernier, Aidan Rand, Owen Rand, Lily Rand, and Brooklyn Rand; five siblings, William Rand and his wife, Gail, of Connecticut, Barbara Walsh of New York, Doris Dearing of Millinocket, Beartrice Smith and her husband, Walter, of Massachusetts, and Caroline Coughlin of Massachusetts; and sister-in-law, Nadia Rand Shirley of Old Town. He is also survived by his wife’s siblings, Bobby Lounsbury and his wife, Vina, Charlene Burns, and Preston Stuart. In addition to his parents, Warren was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry Stuart and Ethel Stuart Burns; daughter, Cheryl Rand Murray; brother, James Rand; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur Walsh, Dave Dearing, Paul Coughlin, Robert Burns and Jeanne Stuart.
