NEWPORT – Elizabeth J. “Betty” Nutter, 81, died Sept. 25, 2011, at her home after a long illness. She was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Dover-Foxcroft, daughter of James A. and Lima (Jackson) Pinkerton.

She was educated in Dover-Foxcroft schools. She was married to Edward L. Nutter. Ed predeceased her May 12, 2011, after 62 years of marriage. Betty was employed as a waitress all her working life. She worked at Yankee Restaurant and at Gateway Restaurant, both in Newport and enjoyed all her customers. Betty attended Peoples United Methodist Church, Newport. She was an avid Beano player and never liked to miss a local Beano game. She also loved Game Show Network on TV and watched it faithfully. For many years Betty could be seen walking all through town to get her exercise.

She is survived by two sons, Roger Nutter and his wife, Lidia, of Hereford, Ariz., and Larry J. Nutter of Orlando, Fla.; stepdaughter, Candy Persson of Brewer; one sister, Gloria Reardon of Worchester, Mass.; six grandchildren, Tracy, Paul, Celeste, Tanya, David and Daniel; 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ed; her daughter, Diane, in 2005; and four brothers and a sister.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating.
