PRESQUE ISLE – Evelyn Victoria Powers, 96, wife of the late Thomas W. Powers Sr., passed away peacefully Sept. 29, 2011, surrounded by family members at home. She was born Feb. 24, 1915, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Marin) Trombley.
Evelyn graduated from Presque Isle High School and then worked as a French translator at Presque Isle Air Force Base. She married Tom, her husband of 57 years, settling in the area to raise her family. Evelyn was an accomplished artisan, specializing in watercolors, as well as sculpture, sewing and woodworking. Her home was always open to friends and family, as well as local artisans and artisans visiting the area. Evelyn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and she was also a member and past regent of Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by daughters, Jeanne Powers of Presque Isle and Polly Powers of Watkins Glenn, N.Y.; a son, Thomas Powers Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Presque Isle; a brother, Roy Trombley of Presque Isle; sisters, Marjorie DeLoch of Hartford, Conn., and Ruth Rowe of Oceanside, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Powers of Presque Isle; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Dale Powers; and a grandson, Christopher Powers.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. Relatives and friends may call noon until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at St. Mary’s North Main Street Cemetery.
