DEXTER and HARMONY – Eleanor G. (Libby) Cromwell, 91, of Dexter and formerly of Harmony, entered into eternal life in the loving arms of Jesus Oct. 4, 2011, at a Pittsfield hospital. Eleanor was born March 22, 1920, in Harmony, daughter of John “Jr.” and Ethel (Giggey) Libby.
Eleanor was a mother and homemaker, devoting her entire life to her children, church and community. Everyone who ever met her always became a friend and another member of her numerous personal flock to be watched over.
Eleanor is survived by her two sons, Galen Cromwell and his wife, Patsy, and Tim Cromwell and his fiancee, Andrea; a sister, Opal Green and her husband, Walter; a brother, John Libby and his wife, Helen; five grandchildren, Randy, Kevin, Toby, Mike and Jackie; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sam, Bryanna, Brandy and Solana; nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved and was devoted to, and all of whom loved her in return. She also leaves behind many dear and lifelong friends from multiple generations. She was predeceased by her son, Paul Libby; a brother, Everett Libby; and two grandchildren, Rusty and Robin. Her family wishes to profusely thank Theresa and Fred Allen, and Lillian Campbell for their devotion and care for Eleanor in her last few weeks of life. We also like to thank the Pittsfield hospital staff, and all those individuals who made Eleanor comfortable in her remaining days here on earth as well as those who assisted Eleanor throughout the many years in keeping her independence up, until only a few weeks before her passing. That is what she wanted most and it could not have happened without the help of these special friends. Also, a thank you to Crosby & Neal Funeral Home for their courteous and professional help.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. Friends and family are invited after the service for refreshments and fellowship at Harmony First Baptist Church.
Private burial will be at Libby Cemetery, Harmony. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to National Kidney Foundation of Maine, 470 Forest Ave., Suite 302, Portland, ME 04101. For an online guest register, go to
