CASTINE – Suzanne Marie (Carbonneau) Snapp, 81, passed away Sept. 30, 2011, at her home. Suzanne was born July 29, 1930, in West Haven, Conn., daughter of the late Jean Thomas and Frances (Cosmar) Carbonneau. Her father died when she was 3 years old and her mother remarried three years later to her stepfather, the late Otto C. Dauenhauer.

She graduated from Hillhouse High School, New Haven, Conn., and received an associate degree from Wesley College, Dover, Del. She married Lloyd Thomas Snapp of Castine, Aug. 25, 1951. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Suzanne was, for more than 30 years, a member of Maine Federated Woman’s Club, where she served as president in the Camden and Castine area clubs, and later as president of Maine State Federated Woman’s Club. Suzanne loved singing and dramatics. As an original organizer of the Camden Civic Theater in the 1960s, she often participated onstage with this community theater and with Cold Comfort Productions of Castine. She was also a longtime member of the Bagaduce Chorale of Blue Hill. She served as treasurer and sang in her church choir for many years.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Lloyd, are her daughter, Virginia Snapp-Cunningham and husband, John, of Franklin; two sons, L. Thomas Snapp II and Alan Albert Snapp and his wife, Diana, all of Castine; two grandchildren, Alan Thomas “AJ” and Kelsey Marie; also a special sister-in-law, Barbara Carbonneau of New Hampshire; many special nieces, nephews and in-laws.

A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Trinitarian Congregational Parish, UCC, 68 Main St., Castine, with the Rev. Diane Harvey and the Rev. Dr. Sandra R. Reed officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Castine Cottages, North Castine Road. To remember Suzanne, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Trinitarian Congregational Parish, UCC, P.O. Box 108, Castine, ME 04421. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
