PORTLAND – Georgia D. (Jones) McIver, 82, formerly of Littleton, died Oct. 10, 2011, at The Cedars Nursing Home, Portland. She was born Oct. 15, 1928, in St. Francis, daughter of George and Emma (McPherson) Jones.
She was very proud that she graduated from high school and Fort Kent Right School and was teaching at a very young age in a one-room schoolhouse. She was staying with her sister, Greta, in Littleton, when she met her lifelong partner, Arnold McIver. They married and moved to Portland in 1954. At that time she stopped teaching and devoted her life to her family. When her husband retired in 1993 they returned to Littleton. After he passed in 2007, she later returned to Portland to live near her son.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Suzanne McIver of Portland; three grandchildren, Courtney Turbe and her husband, Philip, of Manchester, N.H., Elizabeth and Andrew McIver of Portland; one great-grandchild, Riley Elizabeth Turbe; two sisters, Betty (Jones) Henderson of Caribou and Letha (Jones) Hanlin of Oakland, Md.; three brothers-in-law, Gerald McIver of Linneus, Philip McIver and his wife, Olga, of Florida and Robert McIver and his wife, Mary, of Houlton; sister-in-law, Marie (McIver) McAfee of Littleton; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Arnold; five sisters, Ethlyn, Viola, Greta, Lola and Laura; and one brother, Delbert. The family thanks the staff and volunteers at The Cedars for their care and dedication.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Military Street, Houlton. For an online memory book and to send condolences, please visit
