NORTHEAST HARBOR – Grace Eleanor McPheters, 91, died Oct. 15, 2011, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. She was born July 22, 1920, in Braintree, Vt., the daughter of Frank A. and Florence (Bigford) Williams.

She grew up in Palmer, Mass., and graduated from Palmer High School in 1940. She married Donald Reed McPheters, March 27, 1942. They moved to Northeast Harbor in the late 1940s and lived on the William Burden Estate, where Don served as caretaker until 1984. Grace was a faithful member of Union Congregational Church, UCC, Northeast Harbor. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox, doing crossword puzzles and feeding the birds.

Grace is survived by a daughter, Norma McPheters of Northeast Harbor; a grandson, Peter Beckett of Hulls Cove; a special niece, Claire Clough and husband, Alan, and their family, of Ware, Mass.; several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Harry Hogate; sister, Ruth Carrington; and brother, Frederick Williams.

At Grace’s request there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Union Congregational Church, Northeast Harbor, with the Rev. Linda Hatch presiding and a reception at the parish house afterward. Private interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
