PEMBROKE – Margaret Agnes Cushing, 81, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Oceanview Nursing Home, Lubec. Margaret was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Cornelius and Loretta (Shields) Craig.
She graduated from Pembroke High School, class of 1948. On April 23, 1948, she married her loving husband, Merrill Cushing. Margaret worked various jobs in the local sardine factories and making wreaths. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Pembroke, and enjoyed knitting and cooking.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Merrill Cushing; a son, David Cushing; and a brother, Cornelius Craig. Surviving are her three sons, Dana Cushing and his wife, Suzanne, John Cushing and his wife, Joan, and James Cushing, all of Pembroke; nine grandchildren, Michael Cushing and his wife, Beth, of Pembroke, Lisa Cushing and her companion, Judd Trott, of Perry, Melissa Cushing of Pembroke, Todd Cushing and his wife, Melissa, of Perry, Jenny Cushing, John Cushing, Kim Small and Leon Cheney, David Cushing and Adam Cushing, all of Pembroke; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Craig and his wife, Sue, of Virginia and Vincent Craig and his wife, Blanche, of Fredericton, New Brunswick; sisters-in-law, Patricia Craig of Massachusetts, Dora Cushing, Carolyn Clement and Sandra Rogers, all of Pembroke; brothers-in-law, Vernon Cushing and his wife, Faye, and Ralph Cushing and his wife, Brenda, all of Pembroke; many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport, where a celebration of Margaret’s life will begin 2 p.m. Tuesday with Father James Plourde officiating.
