FORT KENT and YARMOUTH – Mildred (Blake) Sweetser, 85, died peacefully Oct. 14, 2011, at a Frenchville health care facility. She was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Quincy, Mass., the daughter of Thomas and Theresa (Drinan) Blake.

Mildred was a Eucharistic minister, bringing communion to the elderly and sick. She also taught religious education to special needs children. Her favorite pastimes were quilting, gardening and reading; Mildred’s real hobby in life was taking care of Tom, her husband of 54 years.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Barbara and her husband, Patrick Lovley, of Fort Kent; one son, Thomas C. Sweetser and his wife, Kathleen, of Orange, Texas; three grandchildren, Shawn Lovley and his wife, Michelle, of Fort Kent, Seth Lovley and his fiancee, Billie Jo Jackson, of Brewer and Samuel Lovley and his wife, Renee, of Kyle, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Cassidy, Alexis, Hannah and Joleen; one great-grandson, Gerard; and three sisters, Helen Blake, Nancy Doyle and Barbara Blackwell, all of Portland. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas C. Sweetser Jr., in 2004; and seven siblings, Thomas Blake, Mary Brown, Martha Greeley, John Blake, Theresa O’Boyle, Joseph Blake and Elizabeth Soule.

Family and friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main St., Yarmouth, with Monsignor Joseph Ford officiating. Committal services will be afterward at Holy Cross Cemetery. At the request of the family donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Thomas C. Sweetser Jr. Memorial Scholarship, care of University of Maine, 5781 Wingate Hall, Orono, ME 04469-5781.
