BANGOR – Frances Virginia Colpitts, 92, died Nov. 4, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility.

She was born Oct. 29, 1919, in Bangor, daughter of Lester G. and Helen (Page) Banks.

Frances graduated from Bangor High School in 1937 and in 1939 from Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University. She worked for Eastern Corp., Gulf Oil Corp. and the city of Bangor, retiring as secretary in 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church and sang in the choir for several years. Frances was an active member of Bangor Garden Club and served as secretary for many years. She spent many enjoyable hours in her flower gardens, especially the iris gardens and she enjoyed being a part of Maine Iris Society. She also belonged to Bangor Nature Club for several years and took an active part in their functions, especially the “birding trips.” Frances and her late husband, Keith, were fortunate to spend many winters in Largo, Fla., among friends and family. They participated in many of the condo association activities and became masters of the shuffleboard court. Her two grandchildren were a continuing source of pride, and she followed their journey through doctorates and post-doctorate work earnestly.

Surviving are one son, Allan Colpitts and his wife, Stephanie, of Nashua, N.H.; two grandchildren, Tonya Colpitts of New Haven, Conn., and Christopher Colpitts of Minneapolis; sister, Hilda Wardwell of Bangor; sister-in-law, Phyllis Leach of Orrington; nieces, Bonnie Puls and her husband, Larry, of Bangor, Linda Littlefield and her husband, Tom, of York and Sandra Stolt of Arlington, Va.; nephews, John Wardwell and his wife, Tammy, of Bangor, and Bruce Wardwell of Lucerne; great-nieces and great-nephews. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Keith; a brother-in-law, Horace Colpitts and his wife, Cynthia.

A service of remembrance will be celebrated 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at the church.
