BREWER – Arthur E. Emerson, 90, husband of the late Muriel (Harvey) Emerson, died Nov. 7, 2011, at a Bangor health care center. He was born July 28, 1921, in Sangerville, son of Charles E. and Edith (Littlefield) Emerson.

Arthur was a graduate of Guilford High School, Husson College and Bryant College in Rhode Island. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific, and he and Muriel married in 1953.

He worked for many years for Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer, retiring as company treasurer. Arthur was an avid golfer, reader and “do-it-yourselfer,” and he enjoyed the time he spent with his morning coffee friends at McDonald’s.

Surviving are three children, Becky Armstrong and her husband, Don, of Brewer, Edith Campbell and her husband, Ron, of Hampton, N.H., and Wendy Oak and her husband, Ricky, of Port Angeles, Wash.; and six grandchildren, Ben Armstrong and his wife, Briana, and their daughter, Jocelyn, of Bangor, Kate Chambers and her husband, Eric, of Brewer, Abbie Armstrong of Bangor, Jason Oak of Virginia, Samantha and Matthew Oak, both of Washington state. He is also survived by a son, Kenneth Marhevka and his wife, Mary, and family of Peckville, Pa.; and a daughter, Sheila Arnone and her husband, Steven, and family of Scranton, Pa.; a brother, John Emerson and his wife, Chris, of Florida; a sister, Nora Turner of Dover-Foxcroft; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife in 2008; and one sister, Gladys Thomas.

Family and friends may visit 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. Burial will be in Dover-Foxcroft.
