CARIBOU – Percy A. Jackson, 87, died Nov. 10, 2011, in Caribou. He was born Aug. 11, 1924, in St. Francis, son of Aaron and Melissa (Thibodeau) Jackson.
He grew up in the Allagash and as a teenager Percy joined the family logging business, cutting trees and running them down river in the spring. At age 18, Percy married Doris (McBreairty) Jackson of Allagash, who he’d met when he was out on the town. Percy served with the US Air Force during World War II. During his armed service career he was in the military police, field artillery and transportation, and he saw action in France and Germany. He was a sheet metal specialist at Loring Air Force Base for many years until his retirement. Percy enjoyed gardening, quilting, picking fiddleheads in the spring and he loved to play the fiddle. He also enjoyed riding his four-wheeler with his dog, Foxy.
He is survived by three sons, Helston Jackson and his wife, Patricia Jackson, Thurston Jackson and his wife, Kathy, all of Caribou, and Dana Jackson and his wife, Connie, of Georgetown, Ky.; seven daughters, Sarah Jackson of Allagash, Gloria Kidney of Caribou, Deborah Robinson and her husband, William, of Georgetown, Ky., Dolores Flynn and her husband, David, of Athol, Idaho, Eileen Mills and her husband, Charles, of Carlisle, Pa., Kim Jackson of Hudson, and Alma Jackson of Presque Isle; one brother, Maynard Jackson of St. Francis; three sisters, Verna Hughes and Jeanette Dodd, both of Connecticut, and Annie Martin of Presque Isle; 29 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mr. Jackson was predeceased by his wife, Doris, in 1988; and four children, Owen, Warren, Theora and Geneva.
Friends may visit with the family 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where vigil prayers will be conducted 7:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Aaron Damboise officiating. Interment will be at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. After the service all are invited to a time of fellowship and refreshments at the parish center.
