LINCOLN – Shirley Louise Worcester, R.N., 70, wife of Carroll D. Worcester, passed away Nov. 26, 2011, at a Lincoln hospital after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 28, 1940, in Lincoln, to Henry and Ida (Seams) Miller.
She was a graduate of Lee Academy, class of 1958. She was a homemaker and mother several years before she went to work. She worked at Forster Manufacturing, Mattawamkeag. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse at the age of 56. She was employed at Penobscot Valley Hospital, Colonial Healthcare, and most recently at Cummings Healthcare.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Carroll Worcester of Lincoln; one sister, Marilyn Pelkey of Winn; one son, Terry and Michelle Worcester of Belgrade; two daughters, Robin and Hazie Jipson Jr. of Webster and Kim Nevells of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Deidre and Dennis Farnham and their children, Dennis, Dylan and Dominick, of Veazie; Terry Urban and Erica Worcester and their children, Terry Brian and Arianna, of Monmouth; Josh and Darrolyn Worcester and their children, Isaac and Abigail, of Belgrade; Charity and Chris Cole and their children, Hailey and Jakob, of Webster; Ryan Jipson and son, Austen, of Webster; Leigh Nevells of Wells, Ian Nevells of Wells, and Nathan Nevells and fiancee, Kristy Burleigh, of Lincoln; two sisters-in-law, Joyce and Jr. Lancaster of Kingman and Georgie Spinney of Springfield; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her stepfather that raised her as his own daughter, Donald Martin; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry “Buck” and Josephine Miller; stepsister, Lucille; one nephew, Dolan Miller; one brother-in-law, Delbert Spinney; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Agnes and Denzil Lothrop; and one brother-in-law, William Pelkey.
Friends may call 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Spring interment will be at Thompson Cemetery, Prentiss. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Potter Scholarship or Ralph and Bernice Averill Scholarship at Lee Academy. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
