Jean grew up in Millinocket and was raised by her grandmother, Sarah Taylor, from the age of 3. She was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1948. Jean worked at Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, for six years as confidential secretary to the mill manager. During this time she became married to Dwight M. After her husband died, she continued the camping tradition but made it a permanent summer spot in southern Maine for several years. She was completely devoted to her grandchildren and made them her focus in later years.
