BELFAST – Laura “Laurie” Lynn Burns-Young, 52, passed away in her sleep Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. Laurie was born Dec. 29, 1958, in Portsmouth, N.H., the daughter of Joanne Sproul-Harriman.
Laurie went to many schools, but fondly talked about her time spent at Orono, her many friends there and growing up out to Gould’s Landing. Laurie was an artistic soul, who enjoyed music, nature, writing poetry and making natural stone jewelry for friends and loved ones. Laurie was also a good cook and dabbled in gardening. Laurie had a genuine interest in the benefits of natural treatments for various ailments, as well as improvements for one’s overall holistic well being. Laurie was a strong believer/supporter of equality between men and women, and would gladly voice her ideals if prompted to do so. Laurie was also a very kind-hearted and forgiving person, who always focused on the good traits in people. Later in life Laurie had many roles to perform, which she did wonderfully. Laurie was a devoted, loving, caring, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. Laurie was a very welcoming person, who was always there to listen when you needed someone to talk to. Laurie had a smile and aura that seemed to make things better, even during the roughest times. Laurie was a woman of strong faith and will be sadly missed until we all meet again.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Clint Young of Belfast; her mother, Joanne Harriman and stepfather, Bob, of Richmond; her daughter, Jennifer Fitzgerald of Rockland; her son, Richard Young of Belfast; her grandkids, Joey, Gabrielle, Sophie, Zanda, Chyanne and Maya; her brothers, Donald Burns of California and Herbert “Butch” Burns of Augusta; her nieces, Becki Croan of Bangor, Heather Burns of Colorado and Kendyl Burns of Augusta; one great-niece, Kaitlyn of Bangor; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
No calling hours at present time. Family will be holding a memorial gathering at Laurie’s mother’s home in Richmond on Laurie’s birthday, Dec. 29. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, please donate to New Hope for Women, Belfast. Condolences may be sent to rememberinglaurie@inbox.com.
