HAMPDEN – Elizabeth Margaret McCullough, 75, wife of H. T. McCullough, died unexpectedly Dec. 22, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 26, 1936, in Bangor, daughter of Ora Floyd and Mary Frances (Hughes) Black.
Bette was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1954. She was a Red Cross nurse’s aide and volunteered at many of her husband’s duty stations. Bette also volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor and Rumford Hospital. Bette was a devoted wife to her husband, “Tink,” for 56 years. For 21 years she supported him with his military service. They had lived throughout the East Coast and overseas for many years. Bette’s favorite place to travel was Aruba and their winter home in Ramrod Key, Fla. She was very active in community affairs and especially enjoyed line dancing with her girls at Avalon Village.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Harvey “Tink” McCullough of Hampden are three children, Brian C. McCullough of Standish, Scott T. McCullough and his wife, Suzanne, of Lynchburg, Va., and Amy S. McCullough of Portland, Ore.; three granddaughters, Sarah, Delaney and Calleigh; three brothers, Edward A. Black of Ellsworth, Martin E. Black of Bangor and James Black of Eddington; three sisters, Patricia M. Mills, Madeline J. St. Pierre, both of New Hampshire, and Gloria J. Black of Bangor; several nieces, nephews; and her special dogs, Buttons and Beau.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services Wednesday at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
