AUGUSTA – Mary Louise Pattison, 65, passed away Dec. 25, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a long struggle with cancer.
Born into a military family – Air Force, Mary Lou was the eldest of three children and spent her early years living primarily in the southwestern U.S. and Puerto Rico before arriving in Bangor, in the early 1960s. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1968, and began a life-long career as a state of Maine employee, first as a social worker in Bangor working in family adoptions and then as a financial manager in the Department of Human Services in Augusta, before retiring in 2004. Mary Lou loved her family, career and friends. She enjoyed traveling to many countries, particularly liking the Greek Isles and Spain. She also liked movies, crossword puzzles, Sudoku and knitting, and was an avid reader. Mary Lou was a volunteer at Lithgow Library, Augusta and served as treasurer of her condominium association. After retiring she learned to play bridge and made many friends at Cohen Center, Augusta.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, John D. Pattison and Eileen M. Pattison (Consedine). She survived by two sisters, Ann P. Bouchard and her husband, Dennis, of West Hills, Calif., and Ellen J. Krumpholz and her husband, Gary, of Groton, Mass.; niece, Lisa Peterson and her husband, Aaron, of Sunland, Calif.; and a nephew, Brian Bouchard and his wife, Toni, of Simi Valley, Calif. She also leaves three great-nieces and three great-nephews. The family thanks her friends and neighbors who lovingly cared for her during these many months. They also thank the entire staff of doctors, nurses and care managers at MaineGeneral Medical Center for their care and compassion.
