GLENBURN, Maine — Police have identified the woman who was killed in a two-car accident Monday afternoon on Pushaw Road.
Kristie Collins, 22, of Hudson was killed instantly when the vehicle she was driving was broadsided by a pickup truck, Chief Deputy Troy Morton of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said early Tuesday afternoon.
The truck’s driver, Josh Young, 20, of Glenburn, was not injured, Morton said. Young’s passenger, Chris King, 20, of Orono, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of minor injuries and released.
The accident happened near Skidgel Road just before 1 p.m. Monday.
Collins was northbound when her 2001 Ford Taurus crossed the centerline on Pushaw Road and into the path of Young’s 1996 GMC pickup truck. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Morton said road conditions were a factor in the accident, but Collins may have been traveling too fast.
“[Speed] could be a factor,” Morton said.
The accident remains under investigation and was reconstructed Monday.

Speed and unsafe road conditions do not mix. Slow down, nothing is worth driving so fast.
From what I understand, Glenburn isn’t that diligent at keeping their town’s roads kept up. If this is the case, then the unsafe road conditions may have contributed a little more than the speed?
I was out there yesterday where this accident occured, and right before it happened. Right you are that road was not at its best, with its brown mud skim and two tracks to follow per lane. I have seen it worse though, and believe it was a combination speed and road care neglect. I dread it whenever I drive that stretch of road. Its nothing but a cattle path that graduated with the invent of the automobile.
road conditions have sucked this year period. for some reason the crews have seemed to feel it is okay to neglect the care of the roads because its a holiday, or its the weekend, or its night time. unfortunately it is the the rest of the citizens of maine that pay, sometimes with their lives. plowing and sanding is a job that cannot be ignored because it is a holiday.
Prayers go out to ALL victims involved. The young man driving will never forget this either. Regardless of HOW this happened…someone has passed, lets all be respectful and keep negative comments to thy self!
Unimaginable tragedy for anyone to loose a child. My sympathies to the family. This isn’t a child of Roger & Barbara is it??
No, she isn’t one of their children. Condolences to the family for their loss of their daughter.
Kristie is the daughter of Larry and Stepanie Collins. We wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you and your family at this time. So sorry to hear about your loss.
I’m very sorry as well. I lost mine in a car accident, at 21, and it’s crippling . Peace to the Collin’s family, and I know it’s going to be a very very long haul before, you even stop to cry. God bless you all.
Glenburn roads were not that bad at the time of that accident. I drive those roads everyday. Really, no matter, where you drive, which road you drive on, there’s always potential for an accident.
Actually they were. I live a quarter of a mile from where the accident happened. I went out to go to Bangor about an hour before this accident happened. The roads were covered in a slushy mess with only two bare tire tracks showing. but for some reason when you got to the bangor town line the roads were clear as can be and only wet.
I drive that same road everyday and to me those roads did not seem nearly as bad as I have seen them. That particular portion of the road does have a certain spot on it that does tend to get slushy but when people talk about road conditions deteriorating, I have never seen them any better or any worse in Glenburn.
Such a tragic loss of such a sweet girl. God has another beautiful angel. My heart goes out to family and friends.
I think she was my waitress at the restaurant the other day.
Very pleasant woman.
Tragic.
I would honestly like to know what true facts show that Kristie was really speeding at the time of the accident! Like how do you really know that she was speeding. why is it every time in bad weather or slippery roads it has to be anyone who gets into an accident and dies or gets hurt they were “speeding” I am Kristies cousin and im horrified by what has happened I recently used to live in glenburn and I USED to travel those roads and i know how crappy they are. Honestly speaking no matter what all roads should be maintaned correctly! No matter if she had snow tires or not maybe it was just slippery i honestly think some people need to not say certain things about stuff they really dont know about! also there are alot of people there that neglect the speed limits but not everyone is the same!!! just staitin! Alls im saying is have respect for her family and take under consideration that maybe it was the roads!!!!! RIP KRISTIE WE WILL LOVE AND MISS YOU!!!!!
I would honestly like to know what facts show that Kristie was really speeding when this accident happened! who honestly knows if she was speeding. I’ve noticed that everytime there is an accident in crappy weather or on slippery winter roads it happens to be when someone dies or gets hurt they happened to be “speeding”! Go figure! I honestly would like to know what proves that she was? what because of her marks slidding on the road? yup could have been because of the roads do not get taken care of the way they are suppost to! snow tires or not anything like this could have happened TO ANYONE. I’m one of Kristie’s cousins, I can honestly say that i didnt like reading some of the negative things on here. It’s upsetting knowing that someone lost their life and alls everyone can think is that she was speeding and that she should have slowed down or what else. I used to live IN glenburn and I know exactly how those roads are and I can tell you i was not very happy i think those local plow drivers should spend a little more time making sure those roads are as clear as they can get them and sanded properly! Im sick of hearing about how the “towns” are trying to save money so they can’t take care of the roads well why dont you spend the money and save peoples lives!!!!! Kristie I hope you RIP. You will be missed more than you can imagine. you are in my thoughts as im thinking about the rest of the family and how tragic this is! My thoughts are going out to my whole family<3 COLLINS FAMILY<3. also my thoughts are with the other family of the other people included in the accident. sometimes its just the wrong place at the wrong time.
When they say too fast for the conditions, they mean that the roads are slippery, like if the speed limit is 55 on bare tar roads, and if your driving on ice where you cannot stand up, 55 would be too fast for that condition. From what I’m told if something happens on slippery roads and you loose control your traveling too fast for the road conditions regardless if your traveling 55mph or 45 mph. I’m not saying that is what was happening here, it’s tragic any way shape or form. I agree the roads are going to crap both bare and snow covered and should not be happening. I really don’t think it’s a fluke with all the fatal crashes lately. Just look at the roads.
You can be truely crawling (going well below the speed limit) to loose control over your vechicle, or for the slush to pull you in one direction or the other. IT DOESN’T MEAN SHE WAS GOING TOO FAST!!! At this point what difference does it make? A young lady lost her life just when it was beginning and now her parents, who are way too young to have to experience such a loss, and any siblings have to come to such harsh terms. I am so so sorry for your loss Stephanie and Larry. My you find comfort in the many wonderful memories you have of your daughter. Remember too she wouldn’t want you to be sad because of the love she had for both of you.
Speed is not always a factor in an accident of this nature. The slush that gets accumulates in the road can pull you in any direction, even over the center line. At this point what does it matter? What matters is that a family is in mourning, which by the way, is the absolute worst thing to have to endure. I am so so sorry for your loss of your little girl. May you find some joy in the many memories you have of her. Remember, Stephanie and Larry, that she wouldn’t want you to grieve for long, but that she would want you to smile when you think of her. Again my thoughts and prayer are with you and your family as you suffer the loss of your daughter.
I too want to say that I am also sorry for the young men that were involved in this tragic accident. Please remember it was an accident…..it’s not your fault. There wasn’t anything you could do. Be sad for the life that was lost and love your lives, the ones that were spared.
wanting the facts that she was speeding or going to fast for road conditions will do what? you all seem to believe the police officer who said that stretch of road was bad where the accident happened but your not willing to believe she was going to fast? She clearly was going to fast if she crossed the center line losing control as well the road conditions played a factor, I believe the officer…
