WEST BATH, Maine — Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating a burglary that was reported late Friday morning on Birch Point Road.
Chief Deputy Brett Strout said the incident was reported at 10:06 a.m. A man left his home to take his wife to work Friday morning and when he returned home, discovered someone had entered his house and stolen his wallet, and then ran out the back door, possibly at the same time the man arrived home.
The man’s children, including a teenager, were home at the time but were unharmed, as they were still in their bedrooms and believed to have been sleeping.
Strout said officer Robert Ramsay from the Topsham Police Department responded with his police dog to assist in tracking the suspect.
Police followed footprints out to the road and Strout said it looks like the person headed toward Campbell Pond Road, but they were unable to track the person beyond there.
As of Friday afternoon, they had no witnesses who saw the suspect, but the sheriff ’s department is following leads.
They did recover the wallet.
