FORT FAIRFIELD and LEESBURG, Fla. – Darrell L. Dolley, 76, died Dec. 27, 2011, in Leesburg, Fla. He was born May 21, 1936, in Fort Fairfield, the son of the late Maxwell and Kathleen (Plummer) Dolley.

Darrell was a 1953 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and then graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1957 as valedictorian of the class. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea and then returned to Portland, where he was employed as an accountant at Ernest and Ernest. In 1966, he married Sarah Conant. Shortly thereafter he went to work for the Department of State, Agency for International Development. For more than 40 years, he was deployed to various underdeveloped countries in Africa and South America as comptroller at the American Embassies, retiring in 2005 and moving to Leesburg, Fla.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Sarah “Sally” Dolley of Florida, are his son, Steven Dolley of Leesburg, Fla.; and his two daughters, Kymberly and husband, Todd, and Catherine and husband, Mike, all of Tel Aviv, Israel; three grandchildren, Alexandria, Dane and Brycklyn; two sisters, Donna Cyr Pelletier of Caribou and Ann Stuart of Windham; a brother, George Archer of Milford, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.

Family services will be held at a later date in Florida.
