MAPLETON – Melvin A. “Nick” Nicknair, 77, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 1, 2012, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born Aug. 19, 1934, in Winterville, son of Frank and Alice (Deprey) Nicknair.

Melvin served in the U.S. Navy, 1954-1959. He worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years.

He is survived by two brothers, Richard Nicknair and his wife, Hilda, of Augusta, and Daniel Nicknair and his wife, Judy, of Houlton; three sisters, Barbara Shinn and her husband, Charles, of Puyallup, Wash., Dorothy “Dotty” Nicknair of Mapleton, and Theresa Slocomb and her husband, David, of Augusta; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Virginia; and brother, Ralph.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements have been entrusted to Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at
