WINDHAM, Conn. – Agnes Jane Haggan Paradise was called to her eternal rest Friday, Dec. 30, 2011. She was at home surrounded by her close family. Agnes was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Jackman, to the late Joseph Leo Haggan and Maria (Cormier) Haggan.

Agnes raised her family in Windham, Conn., and proudly watched her four daughters grow. She and her family spent their summers at their lakeside camp in Long Pond. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing short stories about her childhood and for her grandchildren. She volunteered in libraries in the Windham public school system and dedicated many hours to the Cancer Society. She and Sherburn retired to Jackman and there she was an active member of American Legion Auxiliary, St. Anthony’s Church Prayer Group, the public library and several other senior citizen organizations. Agnes was a quiet person who was well liked by those who knew her. Collecting antiques, traveling, scrapbooking and spending time with family brought Agnes great joy.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Sherburn Ellis Paradise; by her sister, Sylvia; her brothers, Thomas and Roy Haggan; and her great-grandson, Christian Luis Merendina Rivera. Agnes is survived by her sister, Christine (Haggan) Hughey of Jackman; and four daughters, Tena (Paradise) Merendina and husband, Robert, Kemmie Paradise, Kye Reen Paradise and husband, Pierre Morin, and Landa Paradise Leonhardt and husband, Christopher. Agnes will be missed by her 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in summer 2012 in Jackman, where Agnes will be laid to rest beside her husband.
