PORTLAND, Maine — Construction work on the Maine Turnpike between Portland and Auburn will force multiple lane closures and motorists should plan ahead.

Southbound lane closures will be in effect through 3:30 Thursday afternoon near the Exit 48 bridge, which is in the process of being demolished. Just up the road in Falmouth, southbound drivers will encounter work at the Exit 53 bridge and a lane closure will be in effect until 3 p.m.

Two other projects in Auburn will affect traffic as well, with a southbound project at Mile 74 reducing traffic to one lane until 5 p.m. and a bridge rehabilitation project at Mile 76 requiring one lane to be closed to traffic until the project’s completion in June.

Posted speed limits in all of these construction zones will be 50 miles per hour.
