DANFORTH – William A. Mailman died peacefully Jan. 4, 2012, with his loving family around him at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1916, at his family’s home in Weston, son of William Irving and Myrtle Shipley Mailman.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 66 years, Phyllis (Caldwell) Mailman; their two sons, James and his wife, MaryAnne, and Thomas and his wife, Gail; brother, Dellie and his wife, Georgia; three sisters, Ethel and husband, Paul, Hazel, and Irene; sister-in-law, Lila; and grandchildren, James W. Mailman Jr. and mother, Janie, Lacey Anne Mailman, Joseph, Jon and Ryan Mailman; many nephews, nieces and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by granddaughter, Kelly Elisabeth Mailman; and eight of his nine brothers. He had many special friends, including Frank and Adele Lisheness, Everett and Cindy Kinney, Mildred and Elmer Faulkner, Winston and Elaine Bartlett; and a wonderful friend by the name of Rick Morgan-O’Conner and his wife, Linda. We must especially mention his “adopted” son, Peter Theriault and his wife, Debbie; and “adopted” daughters, Debbie Kinney and husband, David and family, and Janice Neal and family.
Bill was an honorably discharged tech sergeant in the U.S. Army having served in the European Theatre. He marched with Company M of the 271st Infantry Regiment and was gone for three years without leave, coming home to Danforth and his sweetheart, Phyllis. He worked for many years in Danforth, first with Varney’s Gulf as a mechanic, then for C.F. More and for Dana Gray in the oil business before retiring at age 62 for the first time, then re-entered the work force as custodian of East Grand Health Center, working at that job until his health forced him to finally retire for good at age 79. Special thanks goes to Dr. Sussman for his compassionate attention to Bill and family at this time and to all the friends and co-workers at East Grand Health Center. Our thanks also goes to the hospice team for the wonderful care of Bill.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date to include his family and many friends.
