FORT KENT – Edward J. Desjardins, 94, died peacefully Jan. 7, 2012, surrounded by his family at Northern Maine Medical Center, Fort Kent. He was born April 5, 1917, the son of Fred and Josephine (Daigle) Desjardins.
He is now living his fourth day. Edward belonged to the fourth degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 0352 and the C.O.F., both of Fort Kent. Edward was a farmer for many years and later volunteered his time delivering Meals On Wheels for more 20 years to many residences in the Valley. He loved spending time at his camp in Allagash, hunting and fishing with his family, enjoying the outdoors.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice (Theriault) Desjardins, in 2010. He is survived by one daughter, Betty and her husband, Vinton Bard of Lowell; one son, Lewellyn and his wife, Juliette (Caron) Desjardins, of Fort Kent; two grandchildren, Phyllis and her husband, Bill Roux, of Plymouth, Conn., and Bonnie and her husband, Bob Hart, of Terryville, Conn.; four grandchildren, Vinton and Valerie Hart and Jay and Kelly Roux; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his two sisters, Louise Theriault and May Plourde; two brothers, Louis and Antoine Desjardins; also by several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, and 9 am until the time of service Tuesday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial with full fourth degree honors will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Spring burial will be held May 15, at the parish cemetery.
