PLYMOUTH – Erma M. Hopkins, 100, died Jan. 7, 2012, at a Pittsfield health care facility after a long illness. Erma was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Lee, the daughter of Charles S. and Florence (Gifford) Ludden.
She was educated in schools in Lee and Plymouth, and attended Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield. She married Ernest G. Hopkins, who predeceased her Oct. 7, 1987. Erma worked as a machine operator for 18 years at Snowflake Canning, Corinna, until it burned. She was a former member of Plymouth Grange and Plymouth Ladies Aid. She was a lifelong ardent Red Sox fan. On Nov. 27, 2005, Erma received the Boston Post Gold Headed Cane from the town of Plymouth as their oldest citizen.
Erma was predeceased by three sons, Lyndon, Richard and Vernon; two daughters, Marilyn and Glennis; two grandchildren; six brothers, Albert, Arleigh, Arthur, Lloyd, Floyd and Kenneth; and three sisters, Erva, Alice and Elsie. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Eleanor and Irma; a son-in-law, Zeb; a special niece, Nadine Tasker; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Services will be conducted by Pastor Brian Woodbury.
