BANGOR, Maine — Husson University will host Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary C. Mayhew on Thursday, Jan. 19.
Breakfast hors d’oeuvres will be served at 7:30 a.m. in the Darling Atrium of the Meeting House. Mayhew’s talk will begin at 8 a.m. in Gracie Theatre.
Mayhew will speak about the structural changes under way at DHHS, the financial challenges the agency faces and efforts to transform how services are delivered to Maine’s most vulnerable people.
“These issues will impact thousands of Mainers in the months and years to come, and we look forward to hosting members of the greater community for this important discussion led by Commissioner Mayhew,” Husson President Robert Clark said in a press release announcing the event.
There is no cost to attend the breakfast, but reservations are requested. To register, contact Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations Julie Green at greenj@husson.edu or 941-7129.

I certainly hope that those kids and administrators ask her some of the real hard questions that needs to be asked. Such as, “how did you come up with your budget numbers?” , have you done any impact analysis of the governor’s proposed cuts?” and “did you honestly think that the State would have gotten a waiver for the governor’s proposed change”? “Did you and the Governor proposed such an extreme proposal, (as defined by your own party’s legislators) knowing that it wouldn’t fly? Why were you so tardy at offering the proposal? And lastly, do you believe that the welfare programs should be administered by a separate, quasi-public department given the fact that 2/3rds of the money used is federal and is federally regulated?
