FREDERICK, Md. — A pilot on his way home to Maine made an emergency landing in a Maryland field when his small plane ran out of gas.
The Frederick News-Post reported that the man made an emergency landing Sunday afternoon in Frederick. No one was injured.
A neighbor whose husband talked to the pilot told the paper the man was trying to land at Frederick Municipal Airport when he was told to circle until the runway was available. He said he ran out of gas in the tank he was using and didn’t have time to switch to another.
The paper did not report the man’s name or hometown.
Note to self…..if ever in the position to be flying one’s plane, keep a vigil watch over the fuel gauge….the time to “switch to another” tank should happen sometime before the currently used tank runs dry…..especially if a few thousand feet in the air……Crazy….
One phone call by the BDN should have revealed the pilots name. Sloppy reporting at it”s best.
Another note to self: Never fly with this person.

Obviously this fellow missed that part in flight school.
BDN……….is there a REST OF THE STORY here? Did the guy then swith tanks and fly off, did he gram an orange 5 gal gas can and hike to the local garage for gas, then fly off, or is the plane still in the field? Just asking?
Should have had the fuel selector on “both”. Just sayin’.
He did not do a proper pre flight check to insure that the tank lever was set to both…
If you go by bus an it runs out of gas you do not crash
