SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A Yarmouth man is facing a serious charge after an investigation into the reported sexual assault of a girl last summer.
Officers from South Portland, Westbrook and Yarmouth teamed up, and their investigation led to the arrest of Ronald Grant Thurston III, 23, of Yarmouth, South Portland police Lt. Frank Clark told the Bangor Daily News.
On Wednesday, Westbrook authorities developed information related to the crime, which allegedly occurred in South Portland, according to Clark.
Several interviews were conducted and a search warrant was executed at Thurston’s Yarmouth residence. He was arrested without incident Wednesday night.
Thurston was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and is facing a charge of gross sexual assault, a Class A felony, since his alleged victim is under the age of 14. Clark said additional charges are anticipated.
Thurston faces up to 40 years behind bars if convicted of the sexual assault.

last summer and they are just now getting around to questioning and arresting him?
Cops are busy in Yarmouth with Clam Festival stuff.
It says they just developed information on Wednesday and he was arrested that night….Does it say the victim reported this to police last summer??????
there is no humor in the Lincoln schoolbus incident
Here we go again!!!!. There are enough adults out there who are willing sex partners,LEAVE KIDS ALONE!!!!!!
Those who prey on children are not interested in willing adult sex partners …… something many people don’t seem to understand … including you.
His profile says he works for Yarmouth Fire.
Every day a new story on men who are so bereft of all that is right. How can any child under the age of 14 be subjected to this horror? It must be torture for these children. The beasts that inflict this should be given life with no possibility of parole and the guards need to turn their backs.
He’ll be out in 5 years.
Sad, but probably true. These monsters never see justice. With more charges pending I wonder if there are more victims. He looks like an internet predator.
If found guilty….hanging in the town square.
