HAMPDEN – Ruby Louise King, 86, wife of the late George E. King, passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2012, at a Bangor nursing facility. Ruby was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Hampden, to Clinton and Blanche Getchell.
Ruby enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting. She was always looked upon by family and friends as the beautician and barber, always keeping them looking their best. She and George enjoyed many years dancing and traveling with the Shriners.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Deanna Brown of Hampden and Patricia Grindal and husband, James, of Belfast; grandchildren, Richard Brown and wife, Cindy, of Gorham, Michael Todd Brown of Hampden, Jennifer Brown and husband, Peter, of Bangor, Laurie Murphy and husband, Dennis, of Millinocket and James Grindal and wife, Rachel, of East Newport; a brother, Roy Getchell of Brewer; a sister, Grace Parks of Brewer; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Ruby was predeceased by her brothers, Cecil, Earl, Clayton and Arthur Getchell; sisters, Doris Haynes, Ruth Engstrom and Adelle Clewley; and a special friend, Edwin McLeod.
In keeping with Ruby’s wishes, a graveside service will be held in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden, at a date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions in Ruby’s memory may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, care of Anah Shrine, P.O.
