GREENBUSH – Leah “Red” (Harriman) Sandau, 42, passed away Jan. 13, 2012, at a Hartford, Conn., health care facility. She was born June 7, 1969, in California, with the surname Barnes, the daughter of Fillmore and Judith (Hershiser) Harriman.

Leah touched an amazing amount of lives with her free spirit and vivacious personality. A woman of as many names as faces, it has been said repeatedly that there was not anyone quite like Leah. She had a knack for making each person she came into contact with feel as though they were the most important person in the world. She was well known for actively taking on the causes of other people who were important to her, “It’s all about making the world a better place, one obsession at a time!”

She is survived by her sons, Gracen Malave of Portland, Bradey Malave of Bristol, Conn., and Cody Malave; sister, Ronalee Davis of California; mother, Judith Harriman of Washington; as well as a niece, Lindsey; and two nephews. Leah believed that families were created and not necessarily formed by blood. She created her own family of unconditional love throughout the years and will be sadly missed by Carrie Smart, Heather Smith, Lori Colford, Mark Wescott and Paul Noonan; foster sister, Melissa Newbury; as well as the numerous nieces and nephews she adopted. Leah was predeceased by her beloved father, Fillmore Harriman; and uncle, John Hershiser.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at Helen Dunn School, Greenbush.
